Friday evening we got our fill of some great local musical talent. First we went to the Art Gallery Cafe to watch Brett's boss's band - The Usual Suspects. They are a cover band and they play a variety of hits, old and new. They sure know how to jam! While there, Brett and I had some coffee and enjoyed the show. Had our evening ended there, we would have been content.
But wait, there's more! After one final song....(GLORIA! G-L-O-R-I-A!) including full audience participation and even a little cowbell, we headed over to the Aardvark to enjoy a few more concert performances.
Brett introduced me to Green River Ordinance (you should check them out! http://www.greenriverordinance.com/ ) a few years ago and we have been fans ever since. We first saw them in Lubbock and then last year they played at Central Market and we were hooked again. They just got signed to Virgin Records and Friday night was their CD release party at a little place called the Aardvark. We thought it would be fun to go and support them. They did not disappoint. It was a great concert. They played a few of their older, more familiar songs and then they introduced us to some new ones. I can't wait to get my hands on their new CD. I really like it! I expect them to do really well in the future. That's why I'm saving our ticket stubs. Then I can prove that I was a fan before it was really cool to be a fan. Hurry and you can too!
The opening band for GRO (that's what the cool kids call them because who has time to say Green River Ordinance??) was also really good and I think they will also be big stars some day! Their band, The Campaign, is similar to GRO. They have some really good songs - you should also check them out! ( http://www.myspace.com/thecampaignmusic ) You can buy their EP album on Itunes, which is pretty cool!
All in all, Friday was a great start to the weekend! We had a great time!
